License & resources

Every WP Atölye theme is GPL-compatible and free to use — including on commercial projects. Here's the licensing, the bundled resources and how we attribute them.

License

All themes published by WP Atölye are licensed under the GPL-2.0-or-later (GNU General Public License, version 2 or any later version). Each theme ships with a LICENSE file containing the full text, and its license is also declared in the theme's style.css header.

In plain terms, you can:

  • Use the theme on any number of personal or client sites.
  • Use it on commercial and money-making websites — no separate license required.
  • Modify, extend and adapt the code to fit your project.
  • Redistribute your modified version, provided it stays under a GPL-compatible license.

What you can't do is relicense the theme code under a more restrictive, non-GPL license, or claim you wrote the original work. The GPL is about keeping freedoms intact downstream.

Bundled resources

Themes bundle a small set of third-party resources. Each is GPL-compatible or carries a permissive license, and the details live in a RESOURCES.md (or readme.txt credits section) inside every theme.

Fonts under the OFL may be bundled and served self-hosted within a GPL theme. Demo images shown in live previews are placeholders for presentation only and are not included in the downloadable package, so you never inherit a licensing problem from our demo media.

Attribution

Attribution travels with every theme. Inside each package you'll find a resources file listing each third-party asset, its author, its source URL and its license. For example:

# RESOURCES

Inter — Google Fonts — OFL 1.1
JetBrains Mono — JetBrains — OFL 1.1
Icons — WP Atölye (custom) — MIT

Full license texts are included under /assets/licenses/.

If you redistribute a modified theme, keep this resources file intact and add your own changes to the CHANGELOG. That keeps attribution honest for everyone downstream.

Trust policy

Our licensing honesty is part of a broader commitment: we don't fake anything to look bigger than we are.

  • No invented star ratings, review counts or download numbers.
  • No fake "sales" or countdown timers to pressure downloads.
  • We state each theme's known limitations openly in its docs.
  • Demos, screenshots, documentation and changelogs are fully public before you ever create an account.

The studio's reasoning behind this — quality before scale — is laid out on the about page.

In one line: Free, GPL-2.0-or-later, commercial use OK — with clear attribution for every bundled resource.

Free to download. Free to ship.

GPL licensing means no strings. Create a free account, grab a tested ZIP and use it anywhere — including commercial work.
